Van Lathan To Host Hip Hop Homicides for WEtv and AllBlk — 50 Cent to Produce Series [TRAILER]

The deaths of some of hip hop’s greatest artists are being explored in AMC Networks-owned WEtv’s upcoming unscripted series Hip Hop Homicides. The series comes from 50 Cent, Mona Scott-Young, and Lionsgate and will be hosted by Van Lathan. Hip Hop Homicides, Thursday, November 3 at 9 PM ET/PT. New episodes will become available on popular AMC streaming service ALLBLK, every Monday, following their premiere on WE tv.

Setting itself apart from your average true-crime procedural, Hip Hop Homicides aims to provide an added layer to consider by taking a ‘big picture’ look at the epidemic of violence in hip hop.

Giving a voice for the voiceless, TV personality and producer, Van Lathan, examines the staggering number of murders in the Hip Hop community. From Pop Smoke to xxTentacion, the series takes a closer look at these shocking crimes, with the hope of providing loved ones and fans with the closure they seek.

Dissecting the facts, exploring leads and featuring exclusive one-on-one interviews with those closest to the fallen…the series taps into artists such as French Montana, Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Vic Mensa and many more, who share valuable insights throughout the season. The streets were talking, but no one was listening…until now.

Featuring an exclusive interview from his mentor, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the premiere episode is Pop Smoke…gunned down in the Hollywood Hills in what was first labeled a “robbery gone wrong”… but the scene lacked the usual signs of forced entry and ransacking associated with those crimes. Was it a targeted hit?

50 cents is producing Hip Hop Homicides, via his G-Unit Film & Television, along with Mona Scott-Young’s Monami Productions and Lionsgate Television. Monami Productions will handle physical production.

“50 and I created this show in response to the disturbing number of murders in hip-hop. With this boots-on-the-ground investigative series, we will look to closely examine and explore leads surrounding these cases with the hope of finally providing loved ones with answers,” said Scott-Young.

Jackson will executive produce for G-Unit Film & Television, Mona Scott-Young, Stephanie R. Gayle and Michael Lang will exec produce for Monami Productions, Lauren Gellert and Kari McFarland will exec produce for WEtv as well as Vanessa Satten and Anthony Wilson. Don Sikorski will serve as consulting producer.

“G-Unit Film and Television has thrived by telling real stories. As I continue to grow my current slate, premium non-scripted programming will be a major focus. Hip-hop loves things that are damaged. This series will shed light on the artists that didn’t make it through the struggle,” added Jackson.

Lionsgate handles international distribution rights.
