Zoë Kravitz is in negotiations to star alongside Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming crime thriller, “Caught Stealing,” for Sony Pictures.
Based on Charlie Huston’s novel of the same name, “Caught Stealing” revolves around Hank Thompson, a former baseball player whose life spirals into chaos as he is unwittingly thrust into the criminal underworld of 1990s New York City. Huston himself has penned the screenplay, ensuring the adaptation stays true to the book’s gritty narrative. Aronofsky’s production company, Protozoa Pictures, is backing the project, with longtime collaborator Ari Handel.

The announcement of Butler’s involvement came earlier this year, hot on the heels of his high-profile performances in “Dune: Part Two,” his Oscar-nominated role in “Elvis,” and the lead in “The Bikeriders.” Aronofsky expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller-coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers.”
Kravitz, known for her roles in “The Batman,” “Kimi,” “High Fidelity,” and “Big Little Lies,” is set to make her directorial debut with “Blink Twice,” starring her fiancé Channing Tatum. As she gears up for this new venture, her potential involvement in “Caught Stealing” adds another dynamic layer to her multifaceted career.
In addition to Aronofsky’s latest project, Sony Pictures is collaborating with several other acclaimed filmmakers. Sam Mendes is directing and producing a series on The Beatles, Taika Waititi is helming “Klara and the Sun,” and Danny Boyle is working on “28 Years Later.” This impressive roster underscores Sony’s commitment to bringing diverse and compelling stories to the big screen.
“Caught Stealing” is set to begin principal photography in September, promising to deliver a captivating and intense cinematic experience. With Aronofsky at the helm and a stellar cast in place, the film is poised to be a standout in the crime thriller genre.
