Apple TV has unveiled the first look at Nocturne, a new 10-episode crime drama based on the internationally bestselling Lars Kepler novels Lazarus and The Sandman. The series, previously known as Lazarus, will make its global debut October 30, 2026, with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through December 25.
The series stars Liev Schreiber as Jonah Lynn, an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who leaves the streets of Philadelphia for a quiet life in a small town in western Pennsylvania. When the diabolically cunning serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Stephen Graham, sets his sights on Jonah’s town and family, Jonah is forced to send his surrogate daughter, FBI Agent Saga Bauer, played by Zazie Beetz, directly into Jurek’s orbit. The ensemble cast also includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan and Gary Carr.
The series is created for television and executive produced by BAFTA Award winner Rowan Joffe, whose credits include Tin Star. John Hlavin, known for Shooter and The Man Who Fell to Earth, developed the series for television and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Emmy, Peabody and DGA Award winner Tim Van Patten, whose credits include Franklin and Masters of the Air, directs the first two episodes and executive produces. Schreiber also executive produces, as does Beetz through her Sleepy Poppy production company.
The series is produced for Apple TV by A+E Studios in association with Range Studios. Lars Kepler, the pen name for husband-and-wife writing duo Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril, also executive produces. The pair’s 10 published crime novels have sold 20 million copies worldwide, been translated into 40 languages and distributed across more than 170 territories.
For Graham, Nocturne arrives on the heels of Adolescence, his Apple TV limited series that swept last year’s Emmy Awards with eight wins including Outstanding Limited Series.
Nocturne premieres October 30 on Apple TV.
