Apple TV+ has officially renewed the comedy series “Loot,” starring and executive produced by Maya Rudolph, for a third season. The announcement comes seven weeks after the conclusion of the show’s second season, much to the delight of fans and the show’s creators.
In a joint statement, Rudolph and her producing partner Danielle Renfrew Behrens of Banana Split expressed their excitement: “We are thrilled to come back for a third season! We’re extremely fortunate to spend more time with our talented cast and crew. Making this show with Apple TV+ has been a joy, and we can’t wait to reunite with our Loot family.”
“Loot” follows the story of Molly Wells (Rudolph), who, after a billion-dollar divorce settlement with her tech-CEO husband (played by Adam Scott), decides to dedicate her life to philanthropy. The show features an ensemble cast including Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Nat Faxon, Ron Funches, Joel Kim Booster, Meagen Fay, and Stephanie Styles.
Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss praised the series for its heartfelt storytelling and memorable characters: “With each season, ‘Loot’ continues to deliver joy, laughs, and endearing characters for audiences around the world. We are excited to partner with Maya Rudolph and the entire cast and creative team behind ‘Loot’ to create even more heartfelt moments with an ensemble of fan-favorite characters in season three.”
The production of the second season faced challenges due to last year’s writers and actors strikes, which caused a temporary shutdown. Co-creator Alan Yang shared his pride in the cast and crew for resuming filming in December 2023 to complete the final eight days of production. “I’m so proud of our cast and crew for sticking through it and resuming filming in December, and picking up those eight days almost as if nothing happened,” Yang said.
The series has also developed a captivating will-they-or-won’t-they dynamic between Molly and Arthur (Nat Faxon), which fans are eager to see resolved in the upcoming season. Faxon expressed his hopes for a happy ending for the characters, stating, “For Arthur, I do hope that he and Molly can get in sync. It’s been a really fun will-they-won’t-they ride, but I feel like they’re deserving of each other and complement each other well.”
Created by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, “Loot” is executive produced by Maya Rudolph and Danielle Renfrew Behrens of Banana Split, Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment, and Natasha Lyonne. The series is produced by Universal Television for Apple TV+.
The new season will pick up where season two left off, with Molly and her assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) boarding her private jet following an awkward exchange with Arthur. Fans can expect more hilarious and heartfelt moments from the beloved ensemble cast as they navigate the antics at The Wells Foundation.
