Ayo Edebiri and Will Sharpe to Star in Apple TV+’s New Rom-Com Series ‘Prodigies’

Apple TV+ is pairing up two of the most exciting voices in television for a sharp new take on the rom-com.

Ayo Edebiri and Will Sharpe are stepping into a different kind of love story in Prodigies, a seven-episode original comedy series created by Sharpe, with both stars also serving as executive producers. The series comes from award-winning production company Sister (Black Doves, Giri/Haji, Flowers) and promises to flip the classic romantic formula on its head.

The synopsis for Prodigies describes it as “an unusual take on the romantic comedy,” diving into what happens after the happy ending. “As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives,” it reads, “the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling—that the tale is over when the heroes get together. In life, surely, that is just the beginning?”

Edebiri and Sharpe play Didi and Ren, two former child prodigies who’ve been together since they were kids. Now in their 30s, they’re living what should be a “normal” life—but for two people who were once expected to change the world, normal starts to feel like a letdown. As they settle into adulthood, they begin to question not only the lives they’ve built, but the relationship that’s defined them for decades. The show leans into that quiet discomfort—the slow-burn existential spiral that sneaks into long-term relationships, especially when greatness was once the bar.

While the premise is intimate, the talent behind it is anything but small.

Joining Edebiri and Sharpe on the executive producing team are Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear, and Katie Carpenter—names synonymous with emotionally rich, character-driven TV. And with Sister on board, known for crafting layered and visually bold dramas, expect something that’s both offbeat and grounded.

In a market flooded with second-chance love stories and quirky meet-cutes, Prodigies is more interested in what happens after the fairy tale. And with two multi-hyphenates like Edebiri and Sharpe at the helm, it’s shaping up to be anything but ordinary.
