Prime Video has announced that Courtney Taylor will join Maggie Q as a series regular in the upcoming Bosch spinoff, tentatively titled the Untitled Renée Ballard Series. This new drama will focus on Detective Renée Ballard, played by Maggie Q, as she takes charge of the LAPD’s newly established cold case division.
The series follows Detective Ballard, who is determined to breathe life into the underfunded, volunteer-based cold case unit that handles the city’s largest backlog of unsolved cases. With a blend of empathy and relentless determination, Ballard’s investigations begin to uncover a web of conspiracy that threatens not only her unit but also her life. To navigate these treacherous waters, she enlists the help of her retired ally, Harry Bosch.
Courtney Taylor is set to portray Samira Parker, a tough, impulsive woman driven by a fervent quest for justice. Samira’s perception of the police is complicated by her childhood admiration for her grandfather, a former officer who believed in the noble mission of law enforcement. However, modern-day policing presents a starkly different landscape.
After a five-year hiatus from the force, Samira is persuaded by her former mentor, Renée Ballard, to return and join the cold case unit. Together, they aim to solve old cases and bring closure to victims and their families. Through this journey, Samira begins to rekindle her faith in justice.
Maggie Q’s character, Renée Ballard, will first appear in the Season 3 finale of Bosch: Legacy, setting the stage for her own series.
The production team includes Jet Wilkinson, Michael Connelly, Trish Hofmann, Michael Alaimo, and Kendall Sherwood serving as executive producers. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate are executive producers for Fabel Entertainment, with Jasmine Russ as co-executive producer. Additional co-executive producers include Jamie Boscardin Martin, Trey Batchelor, and Theresa Snider under Hieronymus Pictures.
Her upcoming projects include a recurring role in Season 2 of Apple TV+’s Shrinking and the film Out of My Mind, which premiered at Sundance and will be released by Disney+. Taylor is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka.
