Netflix is diving headfirst into its next high-stakes heist drama with some major star power. Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones are set to headline Here Comes the Flood, a twist-filled thriller from City of God and The Two Popes director Fernando Meirelles.
The announcement was made during Netflix’s 2025 Upfront presentation, where the streamer unveiled a slate of upcoming projects. Billed as an “unconventional heist movie,” Here Comes the Flood follows a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief caught in a dangerous web of cons, double crosses, and shifting loyalties.
The script is penned by Simon Kinberg (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), who also produces alongside Audrey Chon for Genre Films and Meirelles. Samson Mucke serves as executive producer.
While full plot details are still under wraps, Netflix’s official logline teases a layered story blending romance, betrayal, and criminal ambition—all unfolding as the guard’s relationship with a bank teller becomes intertwined with a grand, deceptive scheme.
Star Power in Every Direction
This project marks a significant move for Washington, who continues to alternate between blockbuster fare and prestige drama. He was last seen in Gladiator II and is about to lead Spike Lee’s upcoming crime drama Highest 2 Lowest, inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low. That film premieres at Cannes this month before releasing in theaters on August 22 and streaming on Apple TV+ starting September 5.
Pattinson, fresh off his role in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, is staying booked and busy with upcoming titles like The Drama (opposite Zendaya), Die, My Love (with Jennifer Lawrence), and The Odyssey, currently in production with Christopher Nolan.
Edgar-Jones—best known for Normal People, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Twisters—recently starred in On Swift Horses and will next appear in A Place in Hell opposite Michelle Williams, directed by Fair Play‘s Chloe Domont.
