Eddie Murphy is bringing familiar faces and causing destruction in the first trailer for ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.’

Fans of the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise have reason to celebrate: Netflix has finally released the trailer for “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” the long-awaited fourth installment in the series. Slated for a summer 2024 release, this film sees Eddie Murphy reprising his iconic role as Detective Axel Foley.

Directed by Mark Molloy, “Axel F” marks the franchise’s return nearly 30 years after “Beverly Hills Cop III.” The trailer promises plenty of action, with car chases, gunfights, and explosions hinting at Foley’s most explosive adventure yet. The familiar synth tones of the classic theme song set the nostalgic tone, ensuring fans of the original movies will feel right at home.

Joining Murphy are returning cast members Judge Reinhold as Lt. Billy Rosewood and John Ashton as Sgt. John Taggart. Newcomers include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kevin Bacon, and Taylour Paige, who plays Foley’s estranged daughter. The film also features Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Mark Pelligrino in key roles.

The plot centers on Foley returning to Beverly Hills to investigate the death of a long-time confidant. When his daughter’s life is threatened, Foley teams up with her, along with old friends Rosewood and Taggart, and a new partner played by Gordon-Levitt, to uncover a conspiracy within the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The journey to this film’s release has been long and fraught with setbacks. Initial talks of a fourth film began in the late 1990s, with various directors and scripts coming and going. At one point, a TV series was even considered, focusing on Foley’s son, but it never materialized. Now, after numerous delays and a change in directors, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” is finally ready to hit the screens.

Filming took place in California and Detroit in 2022, with Molloy stepping in after the original directing duo, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, left to work on the now-shelved “Batgirl” movie. The teaser trailer, released in mid-December, has already generated buzz, showcasing Murphy back in action and hinting at the film’s high-octane sequences.

Veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer returns for this installment, having been a driving force behind the original films. The script was crafted by Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten, based on characters created by Danilo Bach and Daniel Petrie, Jr.

“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” will premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, July 3. With its mix of returning characters and fresh faces, the film promises to be a thrilling addition to the beloved franchise.
