The second season of Lioness, the hit Paramount+ series created by Taylor Sheridan, is officially set to premiere on October 27, 2024. Following the initial season, which introduced audiences to intense espionage and complex character dynamics, the show will continue with fresh storylines and new characters.
In Lioness, Zoe Saldaña stars as Joe, a dedicated CIA operative who leads a covert team of female agents, infiltrating some of the most dangerous circles around the world. Nicole Kidman plays her boss, Kaitlyn Meade, who oversees the operations. Season 1 established the high stakes and personal sacrifices involved in their missions, earning the show a strong following.
Season 2 will see the introduction of a new Lioness operative as the CIA’s fight against terror shifts closer to home. Joining the cast is Genesis Rodriguez, who will portray Captain Josephina “Josie” Carillo, a skilled helicopter pilot. Her arrival hints at fresh dynamics and challenges within the team, particularly with Saldaña’s character, Joe. According to Saldaña, the relationship between Joe and Josie starts off with mistrust, setting the stage for compelling character development.
The upcoming season will also feature returning cast members, including Morgan Freeman, who is expected to play a more prominent role as Secretary of State Edwin Mullins, and Michael Kelly, who reprises his role as CIA Deputy Director Byron Westfield. Thad Luckinbill will also return as Kyle, with an expanded role.
While much of Season 1 focused on the character Cruz Manuelos, played by Laysla De Oliveira, the new season seems to be steering away from her storyline, suggesting that Cruz’s character may not return. Instead, Season 2 will explore new threats and the personal costs of leading such a high-risk program, as Joe is forced to confront the toll her work has taken on her personal life.
The new season will kick off with a double-episode premiere, followed by weekly releases. Lioness made a strong debut last year, becoming Paramount+’s most-watched worldwide series premiere in its first week. The second season aims to build on that success.
