Prime Video unveiled first-look images for its upcoming drama “Sitting in Bars with Cake,” starring Yara Shahidi, Odessa A’zion, Ron Livingston, and Bette Midler. Directed by Trish Sie, the film is inspired by real-life events and the book of the same name by Audrey Shulman, who also wrote the screenplay.

“Sitting in Bars with Cake” follows best friends Jane (Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (Odessa A’zion) navigating their twenties in Los Angeles. Corinne persuades her shy, talented home baker friend, Jane, to embark on a year-long endeavor of baking cakes and taking them to bars, in an effort to meet new people and build confidence – a practice they call “cakebarring.” However, their friendship faces an unexpected challenge when Corinne receives a life-altering diagnosis.

Maia Mitchell, Charlie Morgan Patton, Simone Recasner, Rish Shah, Aaron Dominguez, Will Ropp, Adina Porter, Navid Negahban, and Martha Kelly also star in the feature.

The film is a heartfelt celebration of female friendship, self-discovery, and finding joy in unexpected places. It also explores themes of resilience, cherishing moments, and embracing the ups and downs of friendship and love.

Culinary producer and food stylist Megan Potthoff worked closely with director Trish Sie to create visually appealing cakes that effectively convey their deliciousness on-screen. “Sitting in Bars With Cake” will be exclusively available on Prime Video starting September 8.
