C.J. “Fiery” Obasi’s upcoming psychological drama A Blue Butterfly is expanding both its cast and global footprint.
As filming wraps in London and prepares to move to Kigali, Rwanda for a two-week shoot, Lucian Msamati (Conclave), Anton Lesser (Andor), Eliane Umuhire (A Quiet Place: Day One), Andy Nyman (Wicked), and Aggy K. Adams (The Witcher) have officially joined the project. A first look image from the film has also been unveiled.
The film stars Sanaa Lathan and Steve Toussaint, with Toussaint also serving as screenwriter.

Obasi’s first feature since his critically acclaimed Mami Wata and according to Screen Daily, A Blue Butterfly centers on Sentwali, a man emotionally immobilized by a violent past who lives in isolation as a limousine driver. His only consistent connection is Joseph, an elderly Holocaust survivor who understands the lingering weight of trauma. But when Sentwali meets Emily, a magnetic actress unwilling to accept his emotional distance, the possibility of redemption begins to surface.
At its core, the film explores survivor’s guilt, emotional paralysis, and the complicated path toward self-forgiveness.
A Blue Butterfly is produced by Stella Nwimo (Lady) and co-produced by Rebecca Long under their UK-based banner Boudica Entertainment, whose credits include The Falling, Nuclear, Forget Me Not, and The Sea.
With production spanning London and Rwanda, the film is expected to be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market during the Berlinale.
