Harry Potter is already moving full steam ahead at HBO.
The network has officially renewed the upcoming fantasy adaptation for a second season—months ahead of its Season 1 debut this December on HBO and HBO Max.
Season 2 will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and is set to begin filming this fall, continuing HBO’s long-term plan to bring all seven books to television over the next decade.
The series’ first season—based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone—is currently in production and introduces a new generation of Hogwarts students led by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
The adult cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.

Behind the scenes, writer Jon Brown has been elevated to co-showrunner for Season 2 alongside Francesca Gardiner. Brown, who previously worked on Succession, is already part of Season 1’s writing team and will now help oversee the next chapter as production timelines overlap.
Gardiner said the addition of a co-showrunner was key to maintaining momentum as HBO works on an accelerated schedule designed to minimize gaps between seasons.
The renewal reflects HBO’s broader strategy of treating Harry Potter as a long-form franchise, with each book planned as a season while balancing the challenges of filming with a young cast growing up in real time.
No additional casting or story details for Season 2 have been revealed yet, but production is expected to move quickly as HBO builds toward a decade-long adaptation plan.
With filming on Season 2 set to begin even before audiences see Season 1, HBO is clearly betting big on Hogwarts as one of its defining franchises for years to come.
