Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a second season of “Hijack,” the hit drama series starring and executive produced by Idris Elba.
Created by George Kay (“Lupin,” “Criminal”) and Jim Field Smith (“Criminal,” “Litvinenko”), “Hijack” revolves around the intense journey of a hijacked plane making its way to London over a seven-hour flight. The first season, which concluded in August, saw Elba as Sam Nelson, a skilled business negotiator forced to utilize his expertise to save the lives of passengers on board.
Season one starred Idris Elba, Neil Maskell, Eve Myles, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Archie Panjabi, Ben Miles, and Kate Phillips. Elba is the only one confirmed to return so far.

The gripping narrative and Elba’s riveting performance contributed to “Hijack” becoming one of Apple TV+’s top dramas, following in the footsteps of the widely acclaimed “Ted Lasso.” The positive response prompted the streaming service to order a second season, extending the originally planned one-off limited series.
Details about the storyline for the upcoming season are shrouded in secrecy, with Elba teasing, “It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson, but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!” Elba, who serves as an executive producer on the series, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming audience response to the first season.
The second season of “Hijack” will be produced by 60Forty Films, with executive producers Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash at the helm. The production is a collaborative effort with Idiotlamp Productions, the company founded by Kay and Field Smith. Field Smith, who also served as the lead director for the first season, will continue in the same capacity for the upcoming installment.
Jay Hunt, Creative Director, Europe, Apple TV+, shared the excitement, stating, “Global audiences were on tenterhooks watching Idris’s riveting performance in Hijack, and we’re thrilled to be working again with 60Forty and Idiotlamp on an equally compelling season two.”
With Elba’s return as Sam Nelson and the promise of maintaining the high-octane tension, the second season of “Hijack” is poised to continue its success story on Apple TV+, further solidifying its place in the streaming landscape.
