Disney and 20th Century Animation have announced that ‘Ice Age 6’ is officially in production, marking the return of beloved characters Manny, Sid, Ellie, Diego, and the rest of the herd. The announcement was made at the D23 event in Brazil, where cast members Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg confirmed their involvement in a new adventure. In a video shared by Disney, Romano, bundled in winter attire, humorously teased the frigid setting, adding, “Ray Romano here with some big news! Wow, it’s cold in here. Did the AC break or something?” Following that, Queen Latifah hopped on the screen and the duo made the official announcement about the return of ‘Ice Age.’
This sixth installment will be the first since Disney acquired the Ice Age franchise in its 2019 purchase of 21st Century Fox. The Ice Age series, which began in 2002, has generated over $3.2 billion across five films, with the highest-grossing entry, Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), raking in more than $886 million globally. The last film, Collision Course (2016), earned $408.5 million at the worldwide box office.
Since its debut, the franchise has expanded with several shorts and spin-offs, including The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild in 2022 and the Disney+ series Ice Age: Scrat Tales. While Disney has yet to confirm a release date for the latest installment, the return of the original voice cast and their animated antics is expected to draw audiences back to the prehistoric setting that has become iconic for generations.
