Jamie Foxx Set to Address Health Scare in Teased Comedy Special [VIDEO]

In a heartfelt acceptance speech at the African American Film Critics Association’s (AAFCA) Special Achievement Awards, Jamie Foxx revealed plans to shed light on his recent health scare through a comedic lens.

During the AAFCA’s Producers Award ceremony, held to honor Black excellence in the film industry, Foxx, 56, recounted the gratitude he feels since overcoming a medical emergency, stating, “I’m so thankful and I get emotional because it’s beyond the scope. Cherish life.” The life-altering scare occurred on April 11, 2023, while he was filming in Atlanta.

Foxx, who received the AAFCA’s Producers Award, hinted at revealing the details of his health journey in an upcoming stand-up comedy special, emphasizing, “Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m gonna tell you what happened, but I got to do it in my way. I’m going to do it in a funny way, we’re going to go back to the stand up roots, but I’m going to tell you my way.”

Reflecting on the dire situation, Foxx acknowledged those who ensured his well-being, saying, “I had some people in my life that really made sure I was here because it was dire straits.”

AAFCA was a double down to an Instagram post in which he shared plans of doing another stand up, 22 years since his last one in 2002, I Might Need Security. In the IG post he shared a snippet from his 2002 HBO special, stating, “PRINCE singing the Brady Bunch theme song was a moment… I’m planning on bringing more moments.”

He used the post’s caption to reveal his intention to return to live comedy performances. He expressed his plans to share the details of his health journey in an upcoming comedy special, emphasizing, “I got some jokes, and a story to tell…”

This announcement comes nearly a year after the incident, which prompted concerns among fans and the entertainment community. Foxx’s daughter, Corinne, had previously issued a statement via Instagram reassuring followers of his recovery and thanking them for their prayers.

Since then, Foxx has gradually returned to the public eye, making appearances and sharing updates on his progress via social media. Foxx’s decision to address the health scare in a comedic format reflects his background as a celebrated comedian, alongside his successful career as an actor and musician. With his unique storytelling style, he aims to provide insight into the ordeal while infusing it with humor.
