Cory Finley’s highly anticipated sci-fi comedy, “Landscape with Invisible Hand,” is set to hit theaters this Friday, August 18th. It features a star-studded cast including Asante Blackk, Kylie Rogers, Tiffany Haddish, Brooklynn MacKinzie, Josh Hamilton, Michael Gandolfini, William Jackson Harper, and more.
The film, based on M. T. Anderson’s 2017 novel of the same name, envisions a future where Earth is under the benevolent occupation of an alien species known as the Vuvv. The Vuvv’s advanced technology initially promised global prosperity but instead led to the obsolescence of most human jobs and a collapse of steady income.
The plot revolves around 17-year-old artist Adam Campbell (Asante Blackk) and his girlfriend Chloe Marsh (Kylie Rogers), who discover the Vuvv’s fascination with human love. In an attempt to make extra cash for their families, they decide to livestream their budding romance. However, as the flame of their teenage love fizzles out, they find themselves making absurdly life-altering sacrifices.
Tiffany Haddish’s character, Beth Campbell, takes an unusual approach to navigate the alien-dominated world by agreeing to have one of the extraterrestrials as her “pretend husband,” allowing it to be “immersed in human culture.” The trailer showcases the challenges and humor that ensue, especially with Haddish’s children expressing their displeasure at the unconventional family dynamics.
The film, written and directed by Cory Finley, provides a clever commentary on capitalism and the compromises individuals make for financial gain. It explores the consequences of an alien occupation, blending sci-fi elements with social commentary. ‘Landscape with Invisible Hand’ is produced by Plan B.
