Sequel Era? Will Smith Teases Return to ‘Men in Black’—Marking Another Sequel He’s Got in the Works

Looks like Agent J might not be retired after all.

Will Smith is hinting at a comeback to the Men in Black universe, and if what he’s saying is any indication, the iconic suit and shades may be back in action sooner than we thought.

While sitting down with Gillie and Wallo on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Smith casually dropped a bombshell that had sci-fi fans doing double takes. Just an hour before the interview, the studio apparently slid him a deal to suit up once again.

“I told myself I was done with sequels,” Smith admitted. “I was like, ‘I’ve made enough sequels. I got some new things I wanna make.’ Literally this morning, an hour before I came down here, they just threw the bag for another Men in Black. I was like, ‘Ah, I’m supposed to be going on tour this summer!’”

Timing might be tricky—but that bag? Clearly made him pause.

Smith’s last run as Agent J was back in 2012’s Men in Black 3. The franchise tried to reboot itself in 2019 with Men in Black: International, starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson—but the response was lukewarm and the box office returns didn’t hit like past installments. Now, Sony is reportedly going back to the basics—rumored to have started development on a fifth film last year—with Smith’s return high on the wishlist.

And Men in Black isn’t the only sequel Will’s got up his sleeve.

Earlier this year, Smith made a surprise appearance on Twitch streamer xQc’s live stream and confirmed that I Am Legend 2 is officially in the works and that a Hancock sequel is quietly heating up too.

Regarding I Am Legend 2, he confirmed that he’s teaming up with Michael B. Jordan for the long-awaited follow-up and that the film will ignore the original theatrical ending in favor of the alternate cut—where his character, Dr. Robert Neville, actually survives.

“Me and Michael B. Jordan, we sat down for about a week, just went through character stuff,” Smith said. “Akiva Goldsman is the writer, so he’s putting it together. That’s a real thing. I love working with that dude—he really gets it.”

And as if that wasn’t enough, Smith also let slip that a Hancock 2 is in development—and Zendaya is being eyed for a role.

And while Will Smith didn’t speak on this news, the original director to Hitch revealed Will Smith was reportedly working on a sequel to that movie.

The original Hancock dropped in 2008 and saw Smith playing a moody, messy superhero who wasn’t exactly big on saving face—or cities. It pulled in over $629 million worldwide, and ever since, fans have been asking for a follow-up. If this Zendaya development pans out, it might be the perfect generational bridge to bring the franchise back to life.

In the meantime, Smith isn’t just juggling scripts—he’s also gearing up for his Based on a True Story summer tour, his first-ever solo headlining tour. The album, which dropped March 28, features collabs with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Taylor, Jac Ross, and more. And the tour? It kicks off July 13 in Hamburg, with stops across Europe, the UK, and Morocco.

Before hitting the road, Smith had a heartfelt moment back home in Philly, where the street outside his alma mater, Overbrook High, was renamed Will Smith Way. A full-circle moment for a hometown hero still making major moves.

So between music, movies, and potential team-ups with Michael B. Jordan and Zendaya, one thing’s clear—Will Smith isn’t just back, he’s booked and busy.

Stay tuned, because the Smith sequel era might be just getting started.
