Will Smith just dropped some major updates on his upcoming projects during a surprise appearance on Twitch streamer xQc’s live stream. While answering questions, the Bad Boys franchise star confirmed that I Am Legend 2 is still in the works—and he’s also got a Hancock sequel brewing, with Zendaya eyed for a role.
Smith reassured audiences that the long-awaited sequel to I Am Legend is officially happening, with Michael B. Jordan set to co-star. The film will ignore the 2007 theatrical ending, instead following the alternate version where Smith’s character, Dr. Robert Neville, survives.
“Me and Michael B. Jordan, we sat down for about a week, just went through character stuff,” Smith revealed. “Akiva Goldsman is the writer, so he’s putting it together. That’s a real thing. I love working with that dude—he really gets it.”
With Goldsman penning the script and Jordan joining the cast, the follow-up to the $585 million-grossing post-apocalyptic thriller is shaping up to be a major event.
In another unexpected reveal, Smith confirmed that a Hancock sequel is in development. The original 2008 superhero film, which saw him play a reluctant, reckless hero alongside Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman, grossed over $629 million worldwide.
“There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea,” Smith said. “We haven’t even talked about it [publicly]… but I’m going to give you one little piece—Zendaya [is] being approached for a role.”
A Hancock sequel has been on the table for years, with director Peter Berg previously confirming that discussions had taken place with Smith and Theron. However, the project never moved forward due to scheduling conflicts. If this latest development sticks, it could mark Smith’s return to the superhero genre in a way that fans have been waiting for.
As for Zendaya’s potential involvement? That’s a pairing that could bring fresh energy to the franchise.
While no release dates have been set for either film, Smith’s confirmations suggest that both projects are finally gaining momentum.
Stay tuned—because it looks like Will Smith is getting back to blockbuster business.
