MGM+ Renews ‘Beacon 23’ For Second Season

MGM+ has renewed its science-fiction mystery thriller “Beacon 23” for a second season, based on Hugh Howey’s best-selling book. The new season, produced by Boat Rocker, is scheduled to premiere on MGM+ in April 2024, consisting of eight episodes. Zak Penn, known for his work on “Ready Player One” and “Free Guy,” is the creator and executive producer.

Season One followed government agent Aster (Lena Headey) and ex-military man Halan (Stephan James) trapped in a galactic Beacon. Season Two takes a darker turn as Beacon 23 becomes a prison with Aleph on board, presenting more questions than answers. The residents must navigate conflicting agendas for survival.

The upcoming season stars James, Natasha Mumba, and Ellen Wong. Executive producers include Glen Mazzara, Joy Blake, Zak Penn, and others.

Michael Wright, head of MGM+, expressed excitement, praising the creative team for bringing Hugh Howey’s book to life.

Season Two promises more action, mysteries, and new characters. Glen Mazzara, the showrunner, stated, “It’s a thrill ride. I can’t wait for the audience to see it.”

Joy Blake, co-showrunner and executive producer, thanked MGM+ for continuing the Beacon 23 story, emphasizing the opportunity to explore the lives of characters bound by a mysterious place.
