Director Ogo Okpue’s feature film debut, “A Song from the Dark,” is set to premiere on Prime Video on July 12. The supernatural horror film will be available to viewers in the UK, North America, Canada, Australia, and Africa.
Produced by Nigerian-British company Adverto Studios, “A Song from the Dark” stars Vanessa Vanderpuye (“Bulletproof”), Nse Ikpe Etim (“Shanty Town,” “King of Boys”), Wale Ojo (“Breath of Life,” “Foundation”), and Garcia Brown (“Hollyoaks”).

The film’s plot centers on a woman who, after her husband’s mysterious death, hires a reluctant spirit hunter to expel an evil entity tormenting her family. However, the family harbors a dark secret they are determined to keep hidden.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Dimeji Ewuoso (“Call the Midwife”), Brielle Olaleye (“NightFlyers,” “Call the Midwife”), Yinka Awoni (“I May Destroy You,” “Supa Team 4”), Lola Wayne (“The Worst Witch,” “Butterfly”), Sharon Oji (“Doctors”), Paul Coster (“Luther: The Fallen Sun”), Peace Oseyenum (“Silverback”), and Alex Scrivens (“Peninsula,” “Genius”).
“A Song from the Dark” has already garnered attention on the festival circuit, screening at the American Black Film Festival and the Pan-African Film Festival. It received accolades at the Best of the ABFF Awards, where it won Best Director for Ogo Okpue and Best Actor for Vanessa Vanderpuye.

Reflecting on his film, Okpue said, “A Song from the Dark is part of a personal journey to push original storytelling and filmmaking from the African diaspora to wide global audiences. The cast and crew are second-to-none, and collectively we have made something very special that audiences will love. The film is an homage to my heritage, to the global black community, and my British Nigerian family.”
