Sony Pictures has announced a shift in the release date for its upcoming R-rated comedy One of Them Days, starring Keke Palmer and SZA. Originally slated for January 24, 2025, the film will now debut a week earlier, opening over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend on January 17, 2025.
The move positions the film to capitalize on the extended four-day weekend, with many colleges on break and no direct comedy competitors during that timeframe. One of Them Days will share the box office spotlight with Universal and Blumhouse’s Wolfman and Paramount’s expansion of September 5.

Behind the scenes, the project is backed by powerhouse producers Issa Rae, Deniese Davis, Sara Rastogi, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks. Palmer also serves as an executive producer alongside her mother Sharon Palmer, with the film financed by Macro Film Studios. The movie was developed through Sony’s CoCre lab, a program designed to champion diverse voices and original storytelling.
Palmer and SZA’s on-screen chemistry is familiar to fans, as the two previously teamed up on an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2022, where Palmer hosted, and SZA performed as the musical guest. Their comedic partnership takes center stage in this high-energy film, blending humor with heart and chaos.
The MLK holiday weekend has historically been a lucrative time for the box office, with films like American Sniper and Bad Boys for Life setting impressive records during the period. Sony is likely banking on One of Them Days to draw audiences looking for a laugh-filled outing.
