Sophie Okonedo, Chloe Coleman, and Ms. Marvel breakout Iman Vellani are just a few of the familiar (and fresh) faces you’ll see in Mouse, a new indie drama that just wrapped production.
Directed by creative duo Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan—best known for their Sundance hit Ghostlight—Mouse centers on best friends Minnie (Katherine Mallen Kupferer) and Callie (Coleman) whose tight bond is put to the test just before their senior year begins. And if you’ve ever been 17 and on the edge of everything changing, you already know this story is gonna hit you right in the feels.
Written by O’Sullivan and co-directed by the duo, the film was shot in North Little Rock, Arkansas—O’Sullivan’s hometown—which gives the film an authentic, grounded feel straight out the gate. That local flavor? It’s baked in from the ground up.
The stacked cast includes Oscar-nominated, Tony-winning powerhouse Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Slow Horses), Ghostlight star Katherine Mallen Kupferer, Chloe Coleman (My Spy), and Tara Mallen (Ghostlight). Iman Vellani joins fresh off her Marvel run, alongside Emmy and Tony winner David Hyde Pierce—yes, Frasier fans, that’s Niles.
Rounding out the cast are rising talents Beck Nolan, Addisyn Cain, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Christopher R. Ellis—faces you might not know yet, but probably will soon.
Behind the scenes, the film was produced by Chelsea Krant, Pierce Cravens, and Alex Thompson, with support from Abigail Rose Solomon, Bonnie Comely, Stewart Lane, Steven A. Jones, Ian Keiser, and Alex Wilson. It’s a collaboration between Little Engine (O’Sullivan and Thompson’s production company), Metropolitan Entertainment, Rosalind Productions, and Runaway Train.
For those keeping score, Thompson and O’Sullivan are on a roll. Ghostlight sold to IFC and Sapan Studios following its Sundance debut and went on to be crowned the #1 Best Movie of 2024 by Rotten Tomatoes’ What to Watch list. The film racked up award nominations from the Independent Spirit Awards, the Gothams, and beyond. Their earlier feature, Saint Frances, made a splash at SXSW in 2019, winning both the Audience Award and a Special Jury Prize, and earning several indie accolades.
With Mouse, the duo is back in their sweet spot—telling raw, heartfelt stories with humor, humanity, and a whole lotta heart.
Let’s just say, if Ghostlight was their warm-up, Mouse might be their knockout.
