Tessa Thompson to Lead and Executive Produce Psychological Thriller 'His & Hers'

Netflix has officially given the green light to ‘His & Hers’, a psychological thriller set to star and be executive produced by Tessa Thompson. This six-episode limited series, adapted from Alice Feeney’s novel, boasts a creative team including writer/executive producer Bill Dubuque, showrunner/writer Dee Johnson, and filmmaker William Oldroyd, who will direct the first episode. The series is produced by Fifth Season.

Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, ‘His & Hers’ follows Anna (Thompson), a reclusive journalist who has withdrawn from her social circle and career. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she learns about a murder in Dahlonega, the sleepy town where she grew up. Driven by curiosity and a need for answers, Anna dives headfirst into the investigation. However, Detective Jack Harper becomes suspicious of her involvement, leading to a tense cat-and-mouse game. The series plays on the theme that there are always two sides to every story—his and hers—suggesting that someone is always lying.

The novel ‘His & Hers’, published in the UK and the U.S. during the height of the pandemic in 2020, quickly caught the attention of Jessica Chastain’s Freckle Films, Campout Productions, and Fifth Season. The setting of the story was adapted from London to Atlanta for the series, with Thompson securing the lead role more than a month ago, leading to Netflix’s official approval.

The executive production team is robust, featuring Campo for Campout Productions, Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films, and Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude. This project is part of Chastain’s ongoing collaboration with Fifth Season, where Freckle Films has a first-look deal and is also producing the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series ‘The Savant’, starring and executive produced by Chastain.

Tessa Thompson is also set to star in ‘Hedda’, a reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s 1891 play ‘Hedda Gabler’, written and directed by Nia DaCosta. Thompson’s production company, Viva Maude, is behind the project along with MGM’s Orion Pictures and Plan B. Viva Maude recently inked a first-look film deal with Amazon MGM Studios and is currently developing over 20 feature film and TV projects, including ‘The Secret Lives of Church Ladies’ at Max and an adaptation of ‘Luster’.
