CBS Unveils First Look and Teaser for 'The Equalizer' Ahead of Season 5 Premiere

CBS is gearing up for the premiere of The Equalizer season 5, offering a series of first look images along with a sneak peek teaser clip. The new season is set to debut on October 20, 2024, with episode one, titled “The Lost Ones”, airing at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. The show will then return to its regular Sunday 9 p.m. ET/PT time slot on November 3rd.

Directed by Geoff Shotz and written by Joseph C. Wilson, the premiere episode kicks off the new season with Robyn McCall (played by Queen Latifah) racing to rescue two siblings who land in serious trouble after stealing a truck filled with firearms. Meanwhile, Harry Keshegian (Adam Goldberg) and Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) work to support Melody “Mel” Bayani (Liza Lapira) as she grapples with the trauma from her recent kidnapping.

Season 5 also sees the return of fan-favorite characters including Tory Kittles as Detective Marcus Dante and Lorraine Toussaint as Aunt Vi.

The Equalizer has captivated viewers with its reimagined take on the 1980s series and the Denzel Washington-led films. Queen Latifah’s portrayal of Robyn, a former CIA operative turned vigilante, has made the character both relatable and powerful. Using her unique skillset, McCall takes on those who have nowhere else to turn, while balancing her life as a single mother to Delilah and caring for her Aunt Vi.

As the show continues, McCall’s covert life clashes with her personal responsibilities, testing her relationships and the mental toll her work takes on her family. McCall’s journey is further complicated by the return of Mel, who struggles with her decision to step away from the team following her traumatic ordeal.

Earlier this year CBS renewed the series for a fifth season surpassing the original series in the number of seasons aired. The 1980s version of “The Equalizer” ran for 88 episodes, whereas the current iteration will end its upcoming season with 56 episodes.

“The Equalizer” has been a standout success for CBS, ranking as the #8 most-watched entertainment program among all non-sports broadcast programs. It has garnered an average of 7.89 million linear viewers and over 10 million viewers across all platforms, including streaming services like Paramount+.

The show’s success is not only in its ratings but also in its representation. “The Equalizer” stands as the #1 entertainment program among African American viewers, highlighting its broad appeal and significance in diverse storytelling.
