Tubi and BBC’s co-produced dramedy Boarders is gearing up for its second season with exciting new additions to the cast. BAFTA-winner Wunmi Mosaku (Loki, Black Mirror), Cara Theobold (Downton Abbey), Michael Salami (Supacell), and newcomer Kenda Brown are among the actors joining the acclaimed series. Alongside these casting announcements, first-look images have been released, giving fans an early peek at what’s to come when the series returns next year.
Boarders, created by BAFTA-nominated Daniel Lawrence Taylor, follows five Black inner-city teenagers who receive scholarships to St. Gilbert’s, a prestigious British boarding school. What starts as a superficial PR move for the school evolves into a transformative journey for the students, as they navigate their new environment. Returning for season two are series stars Josh Tedeku (Jaheim), Jodie Campbell (Leah), Sekou Diaby (Toby), Myles Kamwendo (Omar), and Aruna Jalloh (Femi).
As St. Gilbert’s enters a new era, the second season will see the students face even tougher challenges. Following a school rebellion, headmaster Bernard is suspended, leaving acting headmistress Carol Watlington-Geese (Niky Wardley)—who is also the mother of Jaheim’s nemesis, Rupert (Harry Gilby)—in charge. With Carol determined to expel the scholarship students, the teens must decide how far they are willing to go to secure their place at the school.
Mosaku takes on the role of Grace, Jaheim’s strong-willed mother, while Theobold portrays Jude, the school’s new writer-in-residence. Salami joins as Teju, Femi’s Uncle, bringing more family drama to the mix, and Brown makes her debut as Devon’ye, a spirited American exchange student.
Creator Daniel Lawrence Taylor expressed his excitement about the new cast, saying, “Bringing the new season of Boarders to life has been an incredible experience, especially with the exciting addition of new faces. Watching the actors effortlessly return to their roles has been an absolute joy.”
Executive producer Madeleine Sinclair added, “We’re so thrilled with our cast for season two, both the wonderful returning characters and the exciting new faces. Daniel’s scripts are once again as funny as they are thought-provoking, and our talented cast brings them to life perfectly.”
Boarders season two will consist of six 45-minute episodes, written by Taylor, Yemi Oyefuwa, Jeffrey Aidoo, and Racheal Ofori, with direction by Joelle Mae David and Sarmad Masud. The series is produced by Studio Lambert and is expected to air in 2025 on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, with Tubi streaming the series in the U.S.
In the meantime, fans can catch up on season one, currently available on BBC iPlayer in the UK and Tubi in the U.S.
