Netflix has dropped the Season 2 trailer for The Four Seasons, and the group is heading into their next chapter carrying a lot more than luggage.
The series returns May 28 with the core cast intact — Colman Domingo, Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen — picking up in the aftermath of Nick’s death, which hit in the penultimate episode of Season 1. The group is continuing their tradition of vacationing together, this time with a baby in tow and a trip to Italy on the itinerary.
For those who need a refresher, Season 1 — based on Alan Alda’s 1981 film — followed three couples navigating a year of friendship and upheaval after Nick announced he was leaving Anne for his dental hygienist, Ginny. The season closed on a cliffhanger when Ginny revealed she was pregnant.
Season 2 picks up with the group still finding their footing. Jack is struggling to move forward without his closest friend and is leaning hard into keeping their traditions alive. Kate is grappling with how much the group has shifted and hasn’t quite figured out how to voice it. “Jack’s trying to make every get-together a celebration of Nick, and trying to fill in for his friend who died,” says co-creator Tracey Wigfield.
Anne, meanwhile, appears to be finding her footing in a new way — including what looks like a new romantic connection. Her relationship with Ginny, however, is more complicated. With Ginny stepping into single motherhood and taking over Nick’s estate, the two women are being pushed into a dynamic that neither of them planned for. “Nick’s death allows for a new relationship between Ginny and Anne that wouldn’t have happened if he were alive,” Wigfield adds.
Danny and Claude are facing their own turning point. After years of going back and forth on the subject, Danny tells Claude he wants to have a baby. The season uses Italy as the backdrop for that conversation, and audiences will also get a look at Claude’s family for the first time.
Fey, Wigfield, and Fisher all return to showrun, write, direct, and executive produce. Alan Alda, whose original film inspired the series, continues on as a producer. “We’ve worked hard not to stray from the tone that Alan set with the original movie that we all responded to,” Fey said. “Alan’s always been so supportive of us doing this. We thank him infinitely for continuing to show up.”
The Four Seasons Season 2 premieres May 28 on Netflix.
