Get ready to saddle up and ride into the Wild West with Michael Jai White’s latest project, The Outlaw Johnny Black! From the same creative team that brought us the hilarious Black Dynamite in 2009, this new movie promises to deliver plenty of laughs, action, and nostalgia for fans of classic westerns.
The film that is also described as a spiritual successor to the 2009 cult classic, which was also directed by Michael Jai White, features a star-studded cast, including Anika Noni Rose, Byron Minns, Erica Ash, Glynn Turman, Kevin Chapman, and Barry Bostwick.
The Outlaw Johnny Black is a western adventure film directed by and starring Michael Jai White. The story follows Johnny Black (White), a man who is hell-bent on avenging the death of his father. In his pursuit of justice, Johnny becomes a wanted man after he vows to gun down Brett Clayton (Chris Browning), a notorious criminal who is responsible for his father’s death.
Johnny goes into hiding and poses as a preacher in a small mining town that has been taken over by a notorious Land Baron. As he tries to keep a low profile, he becomes embroiled in the town’s problems and soon realizes that he must take action to protect the innocent.
Chris Browning, Eme Ikwuakor, Gary Anthony Williams, Tommy Davidson, Tony Baker, Russell Peters, Jill Scott, Michael Bearden, Paul Rodriguez, Roger Yuan, and Kym Whitley round out the cast. With Donovan De Boer, Michael Jai White, and Grant Gilmore serving as producers.
The Outlaw Johnny Black is set to hit select US theaters on September 15th, 2023 and based on the teaser trailer, it looks like it’s going to be a wild ride. The movie appears to perfectly capture the spirit of classic westerns, with a healthy dose of humor thrown in for good measure.
As Michael Jai White himself stated, “I hope this movie, inspired by the late Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte, creates for others, the kind of joy I felt as a child when I could watch movies over and over with my family and get something new each time!” With such an ambitious goal, it’s clear that this movie is going to be more than just a simple action-comedy.
