Tyler, the Creator is set to step into the world of feature films, marking his acting debut in the upcoming A24 movie Marty Supreme. Directed by Josh Safdie, the film will also star Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow, in her first big-screen role since Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
While plot details are still being kept under wraps, the film is rumored to revolve around the world of professional ping-pong. However, reports suggest it will not be a direct biopic, but rather an original fictionalized story. Safdie co-wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein, with both also serving as producers alongside Chalamet, Eli Bush, and Anthony Katagas. Marty Supreme marks Safdie’s return to A24, following the critical success of Good Time (2017) and Uncut Gems (2019), which he co-directed with his brother Benny Safdie.
For Tyler, the Creator, Marty Supreme represents a new chapter in a multifaceted career that already spans music, television, and fashion. Best known for his work as a Grammy-winning artist, Tyler’s 2021 album Call Me If You Get Lost debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned him his second Grammy for Best Rap Album. Beyond music, Tyler has left his mark in the entertainment industry as the co-creator of Adult Swim’s Loiter Squad and the animated series The Jellies!, as well as in fashion with his lifestyle brands Golf Wang and Le Fleur.
The film will be Safdie’s first solo directorial feature since 2008’s The Pleasure of Being Robbed. His brother Benny, meanwhile, is currently involved with another A24 project, The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson.
