Premiering on January 17, 2024, “Wild Cards” is set to bring a fresh take to the crime-solving genre with its comedic twist. The Canadian-American police procedural crime drama series, co-produced by CBC and The CW, stars Vanessa Morgan as Max Mitchell, a clever con woman, and Giacomo Gianniotti as Cole Ellis, a by-the-book and sardonic detective.

The series kicks off with an intriguing premise: Ellis, a demoted water-cop, arrests Max, a transient con woman. However, their paths take an unexpected turn when Max, while in custody, assists Ellis in solving a crime. This unusual collaboration sparks an opportunity for redemption – Ellis aims to reclaim his detective badge, while Max strives to avoid jail time. The catch? They must become an unlikely crime-solving duo, each leveraging their unique skills.

The trailer introduces the audience to the contrasting personalities of the characters – Ellis relying on hard-boiled police work, and Max employing accents, disguises, and various schemes. The tension between the two promises both humor and suspense as they navigate the challenges of working together.

The cast includes not only Morgan and Gianniotti but also Jason Priestley as Max’s father George, Amy Goodmurphy as Detective Yates, and Karin Konoval as Commissioner Russo. The series is created by Michael Konyves, with a team of executive producers including Konyves, James Genn, Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, Alexandra Zarowny, James Thorpe, Noelle Carbone, and Morwyn Brebner.

“Wild Cards” aims to explore the dynamics of trust and partnership as the mismatched pair confronts a wave of crimes that have baffled the authorities. The series premiered on CBC Television and CBC Gem in Canada on January 10th and will premiere on The CW on January 17, 2024.
