“And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend…”
The story of Elphaba and Glinda is far from over—but it’s finally coming to its close.
Universal has revealed new details for Wicked: For Good, the final chapter in what has become the most successful Broadway-to-film adaptation in history. Directed once again by Jon M. Chu, the film reunites Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda in what promises to be a heart-pounding, tear-jerking, and awe-inspiring send-off to the land of Oz.
Following the massive success of 2024’s Wicked—which racked up over $750 million globally and earned ten Oscar nominations—the story now deepens. For Good picks up with the two iconic witches estranged, each grappling with the aftermath of choices made in the first film.
Erivo’s Elphaba, now feared as The Wicked Witch of the West, has gone underground—literally and metaphorically—continuing her mission to expose the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and liberate the silenced Animals of Oz. Meanwhile, Grande’s Glinda has fully leaned into her image as the Good Witch, becoming a palace fixture and propaganda tool under the watchful eye of Madame Morrible (played by Michelle Yeoh).
Glinda’s public life is booming—she’s prepping for a royal wedding with Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey). But behind the glam, she’s haunted by her fractured bond with Elphaba. A failed attempt to reconcile the two witches only widens the divide, igniting ripple effects that entangle Boq (Ethan Slater), Nessarose (Marissa Bode), and a familiar girl from Kansas who comes crashing into Oz.
As tensions explode and an angry mob rises, the fate of Oz rests on the shoulders of a friendship that’s been tested, broken, and perhaps—healed. Wicked: For Good isn’t just a sequel—it’s a farewell steeped in legacy, layered emotion, and a call for empathy in a divided world.
Rounding out the cast are Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James as Glinda’s comedic companions Pfannee and ShenShen, with Sharon D. Clarke lending her voice as Elphaba’s former nanny. Behind the scenes, musical legends Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman return, alongside producers Marc Platt and David Stone, to ensure this final act lands with the same cultural impact as its predecessor.
From Oscar-winning designs to unforgettable performances, Wicked: For Good is setting the stage for one of the most anticipated cinematic conclusions in recent memory.
Wicked: For Good hits theaters later this year.
