Not every holiday movie is about holiday cheer, and Netflix’s Carry-On is proof. Taron Egerton stars as Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent thrust into a deadly situation on Christmas Eve when a mysterious traveler (played by Jason Bateman) blackmails him. Ethan is forced to allow a dangerous package through security, setting off a race against time to stop a potential catastrophe while trying to protect his girlfriend (Sofia Carson).

Alongside Egerton, Carry-On features a dynamic cast, including Danielle Deadwyler, Sinqua Walls, Curtiss Cook, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, Theo Rossi, Gil Perez-Abraham, Tonatiuh, Joe Williamson, and Josh Brenner. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop), the film promises edge-of-your-seat suspense.
The story, written by T.J. Fixman (Ratchet & Clank) and Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049), follows Ethan as he encounters an earpiece left behind at security. The voice on the line, belonging to Bateman’s menacing blackmailer, gives him an ultimatum: allow a certain suitcase to pass or suffer deadly consequences. What starts as a typical holiday shift quickly spirals into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse in LAX.
The trailer captures this shift, starting with the usual airport gripes set to “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” before taking a darker turn as Ethan receives his terrifying instructions. He quickly goes from a typical TSA worker to an everyman hero in a thriller reminiscent of Speed, but set in the bustling chaos of an airport.
Carry-On marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, after the partnership was announced in 2021. For those looking for a holiday thriller rather than a festive comedy, Carry-On debuts on Netflix on December 13. Don’t miss the trailer!
