Clarence Maclin is poised for a major career milestone as he takes on his first leading role in ‘In Starland,’ the feature directorial debut of British actor-filmmaker Ray Panthaki. Maclin, who garnered widespread acclaim for his breakout performance in ‘Sing Sing,’ has earned recognition from the BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Independent Spirit Awards, in addition to winning a Gotham Award.
Described as a “coming-of-middle-age” drama, ‘In Starland’ follows a man grappling with the constraints of small-town life. His journey takes an unexpected turn when he encounters a dynamic group of young creatives who challenge his perspectives and introduce him to an entirely new world. The film aims to explore the emotional and cultural divide between generations, shaped by the rapid evolution of technology.

Maclin’s rising star status has attracted significant industry attention. Following competitive interest from multiple agencies, he recently signed with Gersh, joining its Talent, Literary, and Culture departments. ‘In Starland’ marks his first major project since this strategic career move.
Panthaki, known for his work in ‘Boiling Point’ and ‘The Serpent Queen,’ co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Kavan, crafting a deeply personal and thought-provoking narrative. He will also produce the film alongside Daniel Khalili (‘Trespass Against Us’) under their newly formed production company, Le Bateau Lavoir. Emmy-winning producer Daisy Allsop (Archface) is also attached to the project.
