Colman Domingo, fresh off his Oscar nomination for “Rustin,” takes center stage in the recently released trailer for A24’s “Sing Sing.” Directed by Greg Kwedar, the film tells the true story of a prison theater troupe leader, played by Domingo, using acting as an escape within the harsh confines of incarceration.
The trailer, released ahead of the film’s scheduled July theatrical debut, offers a glimpse into Domingo’s powerful performance during a clemency hearing. The narrative follows the incarcerated troupe’s journey as they stage a play for rehabilitation, providing a raw and authentic portrayal of life behind bars.
With a cast that includes formerly incarcerated actors, “Sing Sing” explores the transformative power of art within the prison system. Kwedar, known for his work on “Jockey,” co-wrote the script with Clint Bentley and Brent Buell, making this his second feature film.

Domingo’s recent roles in “The Color Purple,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” and his upcoming portrayal of Joe Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic highlight his growing influence in the industry. The trailer positions “Sing Sing” as another showcase for Domingo’s compelling performances.
After premiering at the SXSW Film Festival this weekend, the film is set to make its theatrical debut in July after A24’s acquisition at the Toronto International Film Festival.
