LaRoyce Hawkins is leaving Chicago P.D. as a series regular after 13 seasons, Variety reports. Though his run as a series regular has come to an end, Hawkins will return to wrap up his character Kevin Atwater’s storyline in the first two or three episodes of the upcoming Season 14 before making his final exit.
Hawkins debuted as Atwater in the series premiere in 2014 and has remained a constant fan favorite across all thirteen seasons as part of Hank Voight’s Intelligence Unit. The show is currently casting a new series regular, described as a Black cop who is an agent of chaos.
Atwater’s exit has been carefully set up over the course of Season 13. In Episode 5, he reconnected with Officer Tasha Fox (Karen Obilom), a platonic friend turned lover, only for her to reveal she was moving to Miami for a new job. She left the next morning before he woke up, leaving behind an orange as a nod to her new home and an open invitation for Atwater to join her. Throughout the season, Atwater wrestled with whether to reach out, never quite hitting send on a text telling her he missed her. Then in Episode 11, Fox returned to Chicago with life-changing news: she is pregnant with their first child.
Hawkins joins fellow original cast members Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos in exiting the long-running cop drama. Cast changes have become commonplace across the One Chicago franchise. Ahead of Season 13, Toya Turner departed after one season as Officer Kiana Cook, with Arienne Mandi joining as Officer Eva Imani.
Returning series regulars for Season 14 include Jason Beghe, Marina Squerciati, Patrick John Flueger, Amy Morton, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, and Mandi. All three One Chicago shows, Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med, scored early renewals at NBC this year, bringing the franchise to its 14th, 15th, and 12th seasons respectively. All three are slated to return Oct. 7 for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. Wolf Entertainment produces alongside Universal Television. A rep for Wolf Entertainment declined comment.
Beyond Chicago P.D., Hawkins has appeared in Ironheart for Disney+ and Marvel, Power Book IV: Force, and Ballers, among others.
