Greenwich Entertainment has officially set an August 29, 2025 theatrical release for Love, Brooklyn, the acclaimed indie romance drama that made its world premiere in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The project marks the directorial debut of Rachael Abigail Holder and features a screenplay by Paul Zimmerman.
Led by and produced by André Holland, the ensemble cast includes Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise, Cassandra Freeman, Carra Patterson, Cadence Reese, Joshua Boone, Saycon Sengbloh, and Roy Wood Jr.
Love, Brooklyn follows three longtime residents of Brooklyn as they navigate life, love, and shifting relationships amid the backdrop of a rapidly gentrifying city. Holland stars as Roger, a writer struggling to maintain creative integrity in a publishing industry driven by commercial pressures. He finds himself caught between two women: Casey (Beharie), his former lover turned tentative friend who is fighting to keep her art gallery afloat, and Nicole (Wise), a recently widowed mother trying to open her heart to new beginnings.
As emotions resurface and new bonds are tested, the trio must face their intertwined pasts and uncertain futures. The film is described as a grounded, emotionally resonant exploration of Black life, love, and friendship—told without sensationalism, but with depth, care, and maturity.
Produced by Harper Road, Daughter Films, Fireheart Entertainment, and Umbrelic Entertainment, Love, Brooklyn was praised during Sundance for its rich storytelling and nuanced performances. The film’s producing team includes Maurice Anderson, Patrick Wengler, Kate Sharp, and Liza Zusman, with executive producers including Steven Soderbergh, Andy Steinman, Jeffrey Deary, Thomas Zambeck, Brian Katz, Anish Gupta, Lance Blaise, Alexander Leff, Holder, and Sara McFarlane.
For Holland, the film represents both a personal and creative milestone. “At Harper Road, we believe there is an audience for this movie and that it will connect with people on a deep level,” he said. “There’s a beauty in watching these characters living their complicated lives, and I’m incredibly proud to have produced and starred in this film.”
Greenwich’s acquisition of Love, Brooklyn marks its second Sundance pickup in recent weeks. Executive producer Steven Soderbergh applauded the distributor’s enthusiasm, saying, “The passion Greenwich has shown about the film is the kind of passion that got the film made, and we all share the belief there’s a theatrical audience for a romance as satisfying as Love, Brooklyn.”
Andy Bohn of Greenwich negotiated the North American rights deal, with CAA Media Finance repping the filmmakers.
The film opens in theaters nationwide on August 29, just in time to close out the summer with a story that’s heartfelt, grounded, and deeply Brooklyn.
