Steven Caple Jr. is expanding his creative footprint with the launch of Grey Skies, his new production banner, which has officially inked a first-look deal with Paramount Pictures. The company’s debut project? A live-action adaptation of the Dark Horse comic Ghost Fleet—with Caple Jr. set to direct and produce.
Caple Jr. has tapped Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Blue Beetle, The Boys: Mexico) to adapt the script, based on the eight-issue comic created by Donny Cates and artist Daniel Warren Johnson. The story centers on an elite combat-trained trucker who breaks protocol and takes a peek at the mysterious cargo he’s hauling—only to unravel a conspiracy that could change the world.
“For the world’s most valuable, dangerous, or secretive cargo, you don’t call just any trucking service… You call THE GHOST FLEET.”
Described by fans as a genre mashup packed with action, sci-fi, horror, and thriller elements, the comic’s cinematic potential feels tailor-made for Caple Jr.’s gritty, world-building lens.
Joining him at Grey Skies is Jeannette Francis, the former VP of Production at Bad Robot. She now serves as EVP of Development and Production, overseeing a slate that also includes Netflix’s upcoming Man on Fire series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Caple Jr. is EP and director) and I Am Legend 2 at Warner Bros., which is set to star Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan.
Caple Jr. is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson. Dunnet-Alcocer is repped by WME and Redefine Entertainment.
A Cleveland native and a rising voice in both TV and film, Caple Jr. broke out with his acclaimed directorial debut The Land, and went on to helm Creed II—starring Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, and Sylvester Stallone—as well as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which hit theaters in 2023. He was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in 2018 and continues to be one of the most in-demand directors working today.
