The Pitt is coming back for more drama and high-pressure moments. Max has officially renewed the fast-paced medical series for a second season. Created by R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles) and produced by John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television, the show follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) through a relentless 15-hour shift as chief attendant at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room. In addition to Wyle, the ensemble cast includes Tracey Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez.
The show’s real-time storytelling format has captivated audiences since its debut in January. Season 1, consisting of 15 episodes, will wrap with its finale on April 10. New episodes drop every thursday on Max.
“It’s been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses in a 2025 emergency room,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of Max Original Programming. “Our collaboration with John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle, and Warner Bros. Television has been incredibly rewarding, and we’re excited to continue down this path with another season.”
The series has been well received by critics, holding a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
WBTV Chairman and CEO Channing Dungey praised the show’s innovative approach: “From its powerful stories to its realistic set and unique real-time format, The Pitt is truly a masterclass in storytelling. It’s all due to the talented team of executive producers and crew, and the incredible ensemble cast who embody the pace and pressure of a hospital emergency department. John, Noah, Scott, and the team have so many more stories to tell, and we’re thankful to our partners at Max for giving them the opportunity to do so.”
Behind the scenes, the executive producers include R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle, John Wells, Erin Jontow, Michael Hissrich, and Simran Baidwan, with Warner Bros. Television producing under Wells’ overall deal with the studio.
Interestingly, the renewal comes amid an ongoing legal battle. The estate of Michael Crichton, creator of ER, has filed a lawsuit claiming that The Pitt is an unauthorized reboot of the iconic medical drama. Notably, Wells, Wyle, and Gemmill all worked on ER.
Legal drama aside, The Pitt continues to carve out its own space in the genre, delivering stories that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Season 2 is set to bring more chaos, more pressure, and more reasons to tune in.
