NBC Renews ‘St. Denis Medical’ for a Second Season

The doctors and nurses of St. Denis Medical are scrubbing in for another season. NBC has officially renewed the comedy series for a second season, cementing its place in the 2025-26 lineup. The announcement comes as the show prepares to return from its winter hiatus Tuesday night, with the back half of its first season set to air.

Set in an underfunded Oregon hospital, St. Denis Medical hilariously spotlights the overworked and often-overwhelmed staff doing their best to care for patients while navigating the chaos of their own lives. The series, styled as a mockumentary, stars an ensemble cast including Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi.

The show is created by Superstore and American Auto alums Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer, who serve as executive producers alongside Simon Heuer, Ruben Fleischer, Bridget Kyle, and Vicky Luu. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces the series.

Through its first six episodes, St. Denis Medical has averaged just under 3 million viewers for its live airings. However, it sees a significant boost with delayed viewing, climbing to 5.2 million viewers per episode within seven days of streaming and playback. NBC also revealed that over 21.4 million people have tuned in to at least a portion of the show across all platforms, making it the network’s top-performing new series among adults aged 18-49 this season.

The series debuted on november 12 and has maintained impressive audience retention, with its second episode holding 82% of the premiere’s live-plus-same-day audience. NBC’s confidence in the show was evident earlier this year when it extended the first season with an order for five additional episodes.

St. Denis Medical is the first of NBC’s freshman series to secure a renewal for next season, joining the ranks of other network newcomers like CBS’s Matlock and Fox’s Universal Basic Guys. It also marks a bright spot for NBC’s comedy lineup, airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by Night Court. Episodes stream the following day on Peacock.
