Netflix is gearing up for a thrilling new addition to its roster with The Madness, a limited series starring Colman Domingo. Set to premiere on November 28, last year the Vice President Peter Friedlander described The Madness in a press release as “a fresh take on the conspiracy thriller,” noting that the series turns “the genre on its head with its multilayered characters, propulsive action and swift pace.”
In The Madness, Domingo plays Muncie Daniels, a media pundit who inadvertently witnesses a murder while in the Poconos woods. As he grapples with his own innocence and survival, Daniels faces mounting pressure and danger, all while trying to reconnect with his estranged family and reclaim his lost ideals. The series promises a high-octane narrative with deep psychological and emotional layers.
The ensemble cast includes Marsha Stephanie Blake as Elena Daniels, Gabrielle Graham as Kallie, John Ortiz as Franco Quinones, Tamsi Topolski as Lucie Snipes, and Thaddeus J. Mixson as Demetrius.
The first-look images released by Netflix highlight Domingo’s intense portrayal of Daniels, revealing a character thrust into a harrowing situation that challenges his beliefs and his life. Domingo, celebrated for his powerful performances, brings a fresh, nuanced take to the role, ensuring that viewers will be on the edge of their seats. Deon Cole, although not included in the cast is featured in the first look images.
Created by Stephen Belber and VJ Boyd, The Madness offers a novel twist on the conspiracy thriller. Belber, known for What We Do Next and The Laramie Project, and Boyd, recognized for Justified and S.W.A.T, have crafted a series that not only redefines the genre but also pushes the boundaries of storytelling. Clément Virgo, who directed Brother, joins as both director and executive producer, with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kaitlin Dahill also serving as executive producers.
Domingo has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, calling it a groundbreaking venture that examines the complexities of personal beliefs and societal manipulation. “Everything about this conspiracy thriller excited me,” Domingo shared. “It was a unique protagonist, someone who had to reevaluate his beliefs and connections under extreme pressure.”
The Madness is positioned as a perfect binge-watch for the Thanksgiving holiday, is a gripping narrative and a fresh perspective on the thriller genre.
