ABC Cancels Gina Rodriguez-led Comedy Series "Not Dead Yet" After Two Seasons

ABC has decided to cancel the comedy series “Not Dead Yet” after its two-season run, starring and executive produced by Gina Rodriguez. The show, created by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, revolved around the character of Nell Stevens, played by Rodriguez, who navigates life as a newly single woman feeling out of touch and trying to restart her career.

Nell, a self-described disaster, embarks on a journey to rejuvenate her life and career, which she had paused ten years earlier to support her former fiancé in starting a restaurant. The series explores her challenges and growth as she transitions from a once-successful journalist to writing obituaries and finding unexpected inspiration in her new role.

Despite a promising start with its premiere in early 2023, which marked ABC’s most-watched comedy debut in over four years, the show faced declining ratings in its second season. Deadline’s Editor-in-Chief of TV Nellie Andreeva commented last month on the show’s uncertain future due to soft ratings.

The cast included notable actors such as Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela E. Gibbs, Jesse Garcia, and Brad Garrett.

This cancellation adds to the recent trend of Latino-led shows facing similar fates on network television, with “Not Dead Yet” joining “Station 19” in not returning for another season. However, ABC did renew another Latino-led series, “Will Trent,” starring Ramon Rodriguez.
