After reigniting the Bad Boys franchise with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Sony Pictures and Martin Lawrence are revisiting yet another fan-favorite comedy, with sources telling Deadline that a sequel to the 1999 classic Blue Streak is officially in the works. Cole Masika is set to pen the screenplay, but the project is still in its early stages, with no additional cast or creative team confirmed yet.

In Blue Streak, Lawrence stars as Miles Logan, a jewel thief who gets caught up in his biggest heist when he’s forced to stash a priceless diamond at a construction site—only to later discover the building has been transformed into a police station. In an attempt to retrieve his loot, Miles goes undercover, posing as a detective and finding himself hilariously entangled in the precinct’s cases. Teaming up with a by-the-books cop, played by Luke Wilson, Miles gets an unexpected crash course in both law enforcement and crime-solving. Released in 1999, Blue Streak debuted as the No. 1 movie at the North American box office, ultimately earning almost $120 million worldwide.
The sequel is being produced by Lawrence’s production company Run Tel Dat, alongside Robert Lawrence, Rae Proctor, Stacy Lyles, and Toby Jaffe from RDV Films. Given the excitement around Lawrence’s resurgence in Hollywood, this sequel has plenty of anticipation from fans who’ve long cherished the comedian’s iconic characters.
Fresh off the success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which debuted with $56 million in domestic earnings and helped push the Bad Boys franchise over the $1 billion mark in lifetime box office, Lawrence continues to show his comedy chops across multiple platforms. He’s currently on a nationwide comedy tour, You All Know What It Is, which runs through March 2025, giving audiences a taste of his humor live and in full color.
