“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin is adapting her novel “Summer on the Bluffs” into an Amazon MGM Studios series. The series, produced by Sunny Hostin Productions in collaboration with Octavia Spencer’s Orit Entertainment, is in early development.
Published by William Morrow in 2021, the novel explores the tales of three godsisters and their godmother in the historically Black beach community of Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard. Elizabeth Hunter, known for “Jumping the Broom” (2011) and “The Fighting Temptations,” will adapt and serve as the executive producer and showrunner.

“Summer on the Bluffs” is the first installment of Hostin’s trilogy, with the second, “Summer on Sag Harbor,” already a New York Times bestseller. The final book, “Summer on Highland Beach,” is set for release on May 28, 2024.
Sunny Hostin Productions, launched in 2021, focuses on creating content that highlights social justice, meaningful stories, and underrepresented groups. Regina Jansen is the Head of Development for the company.
Octavia Spencer’s Orit Entertainment, established in 2019, has produced notable projects like “Truth Be Told” and “Self-Made: Inspired by The Life of Madam C.J. Walker.” In November, Orit premiered docuseries “Lost Women of Highway 20” and “Feds” in partnership with ID and October Films.
