Prime Video just dropped the trailer for The Better Sister, and if you’re into family secrets, sibling drama, and murder that cuts deeper than blood — this one’s for you.
Starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as estranged sisters forced back into each other’s lives by a tragedy neither of them saw coming, the limited series explores the cracks in a picture-perfect life when it all comes crashing down.
But here’s a bonus for longtime TV lovers: the show also features The Equalizer’s Lorraine Toussaint and Gloria Reuben, who recurred on the series — back on screen together, this time as part of another layered and emotionally charged story.
Based on the best-selling novel by Alafair Burke, The Better Sister centers on Chloe Taylor (Biel), a successful media exec with what seems like a perfect life — a high-powered job, a loving husband (Corey Stoll), and a teenage son, Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan). That illusion shatters when Chloe comes home to find her husband murdered.
Enter Nicky (Banks), Chloe’s estranged sister. She’s rough around the edges, fighting for sobriety, and as fate would have it — she’s also Adam’s ex and Ethan’s biological mother. Yeah… the kind of plot that makes group chats explode.
The trailer shows Chloe trying to keep it together as the media frenzy grows, Ethan becomes a suspect, and Nicky re-enters the picture like a human grenade. With the sisters suddenly at the center of a murder investigation, they have to confront a complicated past that includes betrayal, buried trauma, and a web of secrets that could destroy what’s left of their fractured family.
And as Kim Dickens’ character warns: “What a crazy turn — the world knowing you stole your sister’s life.”
With eight tightly-wound episodes, The Better Sister unfolds as a psychological thriller, a domestic mystery, and a look at how far people will go to protect the truth… or hide it.
The cast is stacked beyond Biel and Banks. In addition to Reuben and Toussaint, the ensemble includes Kim Dickens, Bobby Naderi, Gabriel Sloyer, and Matthew Modine. Olivia Milch (Ocean’s 8) and Regina Corrado (Mayor of Kingstown) serve as showrunners and executive producers, with Craig Gillespie (Pam & Tommy) directing and producing through Fortunate Jack Productions. Biel and Banks also executive produce alongside Michelle Purple, Kerry Orent, and the team at Tomorrow Studios.
The Better Sister premieres May 29 on Prime Video, streaming globally across 240+ countries and territories. Clear your schedule — family drama like this doesn’t wait.
