If you didn’t get to witness Sinners in all its cinematic glory the first time, or you’ve been itching to relive the experience the way Coogler intended — your prayers have been answered.
Warner Bros. is bringing Sinners back to select IMAX theaters in 70mm for a special one-week engagement from May 15 to May 21. And not just any screens — we’re talking the formats he wants everyone to see it in. Nine of the biggest and best IMAX theaters in North America will carry the film, including:
- AMC CityWalk (Los Angeles)
- Irvine Spectrum (Irvine)
- AMC Lincoln Square (New York)
- AMC Metreon (San Francisco)
- Indiana State Museum IMAX (Indianapolis)
- Arizona Mills IMAX (Phoenix)
- AutoNation IMAX (Ft. Lauderdale)
- Webb Chapel IMAX (Dallas)
- Colossus IMAX (Toronto)
Even with Sinners still playing in theaters nationwide, this limited re-release gives audiences another shot to feel the scale, tension, and intimacy of Coogler’s world the way it was designed — massive, immersive, and visceral.
“Audiences have spoken, and we listened,” said Jeff Goldstein, President of Global Distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures. “If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible larger-than-life format, it’s Sinners.”
Since debuting over Easter weekend with a $48 million opening, Sinners has been nothing short of a phenomenon. In just two and a half weeks, it has grossed $135.6 million domestically and $175 million worldwide, passing The Silence of the Lambs and setting its sights on Five Nights at Freddy’s. Its second-weekend drop? A miraculous 5% — nearly unheard of in the genre.
The film stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers returning to post-World War I Mississippi — only to be met with a haunting evil that predates even the horrors of war. The ensemble cast includes Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Miles Caton, Omar Miller, Delroy Lindo, Li Jun Li, Yao, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jack O’Connell.
Coogler, who wrote and directed the film, has called Sinners a personal and spiritual project — one rooted in family, ancestry, and the kind of genre-bending storytelling that dares to challenge how we define horror.
“We always had our minds on you, the audience, and felt a deep responsibility to entertain you, and move you in the way only cinema can,” Coogler wrote in a letter to fans. “Together maybe we can expand the definition of what a blockbuster is, what a horror movie is, and what an IMAX audience looks like.”
Directors like Spike Lee have already called the film “amazing” and “necessary.” And judging by the box office stamina and re-release demand, it’s clear Sinners is striking a nerve — and a chord.
As it heads into its third weekend, Coogler’s vampire thriller isn’t just surviving — it’s thriving. But if you want to catch it on the biggest screen possible, now’s your moment.
Because some films aren’t just meant to be watched — they’re meant to be experienced.
