Apple TV+ is officially logging out of Mythic Quest. The workplace comedy set inside a video game company won’t be returning for a fifth season, marking the end of the road after four seasons of guild drama, game dev chaos, and hilarious workplace dynamics.
The decision comes just days after the Season 4 finale dropped on March 26. But don’t rage quit just yet — the creators aren’t letting the series bow out without one last patch. Since the finale wasn’t originally crafted as a series-ender, a brand-new version with a proper send-off will roll out next week, giving viewers a real goodbye instead of just a “game over.”
In a joint statement, co-creators and executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney shared:
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close. We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build — and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode — so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”
While the move may not come as a total shock — especially after a relatively quiet fourth season — it’s still the end of an era. The show premiered in 2020 and quickly earned praise for its smart writing, big laughs, and heart. Across its run, it held a strong critical track record, averaging 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mythic Quest followed the eccentric crew behind a massively popular MMORPG. At the center was McElhenney’s Ian Grimm, the egotistical creative director with big visions and bigger insecurities. Alongside him were Charlotte Nicdao as engineer-turned-co-leader Poppy Li, Hornsby as the ever-hapless David Brittlesbee, Danny Pudi as money-minded Brad, Ashly Burch, Imani Hakim, Jessie Ennis, and Naomi Ekperigin rounding out the cast.
The show came from the minds of McElhenney, Ganz, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Charlie Day, with production from Lionsgate, Ubisoft Film & Television, and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Though the main series is wrapping, the world of Mythic Quest lives on — at least a little longer. The newly released spinoff Side Quest, an anthology-style mini-series, also premiered March 26. Each of its four episodes tells a different story from the broader Mythic Quest universe — tapping into the lives of players, developers, and superfans alike. Guest stars include Anna Konkle, Rome Flynn, Shalita Grant, and Esai Morales.
From quarantine specials to LARPing office retreats, Mythic Quest never played it safe — and now it’s getting one last chance to go out on its own terms.
The final-final episode of Mythic Quest hits Apple TV+ next week.
