BET+ has officially renewed the comedy series Churchy for a second season, produced by Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks and LeBron James’ SpringHill. The announcement comes just days before the show’s linear debut on BET next Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 9 p.m. ET.
Churchy draws inspiration from Fredericks’ comedic style, centering around Corey Carr Jr., a character navigating life after his father’s mega-church denies him leadership. Instead, Corey heads to Lubbock, Texas, to establish his own ministry. The series showcases Corey’s comedic and challenging journey in small-town church life, highlighting that spiritual leadership can be unexpectedly funny and insightful.

Alongside Fredericks, season 1 starred cast members Anthony Elfoniza, Lexi Allen, London Solomon, Mark J. P. Hood, and Shani Shockley. The upcoming season will introduce new series regulars Quin Walter and Tahir Moor, with special appearances by Nic Few, Tony Baker, and Tabitha Brown.
In a statement, Fredericks expressed gratitude: “A heartfelt thank you to BET for their unwavering support, SpringHill for their amazing partnership, and to our incredible audience for tuning in and making this journey possible. The cast and I can’t wait to bring you even more comedy and a bigger, better show.”
Season 1 of Churchy debuted as the No. 1 scripted comedy on BET+ during its premiere week on February 15. Jason Harvey, BET+’s EVP and head of programming, commended the show’s success: “Churchy blends humor and heart in a way that resonated with viewers. We are excited to see where the second season will take us.”
The second season will feature writing from Richard A. Washington and David Murphy. Fredericks and Melissa Fredericks will continue as executive producers for KevOnStage Studios, while LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Lezlie Wills will oversee production for SpringHill.
With Churchy’s renewal, BET+ maintains a robust comedy lineup that includes Average Joe, also set for a second season. However, other series like The Ms. Pat Show, Diarra from Detroit, and Tyler Perry’s Bruh are still awaiting renewal announcements, while Tyler Perry’s Zatima recently returned for Season 3.
