Ice Cube Announces Progress on Fourth 'Friday' Film, “We finally got some traction with Warner Bros.”

It might be nearly 25 years after the third Friday, and major key cast members have since passed, but as long as Friday is a day of the week, Ice Cube is determined to see the fourth installment franchise come to fruition. This time, he’s closer than ever.

Fans of the iconic “Friday” franchise can look forward to a potential new installment as Ice Cube recently shared promising news about the development of a fourth film. During an interview on Flavor Flav’s Sirius XM show, Flavor of the Week, Ice Cube discussed the progress being made with Warner Bros.

“We finally got some traction with Warner Bros.,” Ice Cube revealed, highlighting the involvement of Mike DeLuca, who now holds a leadership role at the studio. DeLuca, who previously worked at New Line Cinema during the production of the original “Friday,” appears to be a key figure in moving the project forward.

Reflecting on the delay, Ice Cube expressed frustration over the time it took for the studio to act, especially as the franchise lost beloved actors like John Witherspoon, Tiny “Zeus” Lister Jr., and Anthony Johnson. “I was a little hot ’cause they took so long,” Cube stated. “We keep losing people, and y’all keep dicking around not doing the movie the way it needs to be done.”

The original “Friday” film, which premiered in 1995, was a major success, leading to the sequels “Next Friday” in 2000 and “Friday After Next” in 2002. Ice Cube, who co-wrote and starred in the original film, has been eager to continue the series but has faced challenges with Warner Bros. regarding the rights and direction of the new installment.

In 2023, Ice Cube criticized Warner Bros. for delaying the project, stating, “Warner Bros. is weird right now. We’d love to have [the rights] back. It’s my movie, but they have distribution control.” Despite these hurdles, the recent changes in Warner Bros.’ leadership have rekindled hope for the project’s progress.

Ice Cube is optimistic about the future, emphasizing the need to execute the film correctly. “They want to do it. But the key is it’s gotta be done right,” he said.

The “Friday” franchise, known for its humorous portrayal of life in South Central Los Angeles, has maintained a dedicated fan base over the years. With the potential fourth film, there is renewed excitement and anticipation for what’s to come.

As developments continue, fans eagerly await more updates on the project, hopeful that the long-awaited fourth installment will soon become a reality.
