Still waters run deep. Still Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Universal Pictures’ upcoming biographical film Snoop has found its Dre, with Myles Bullock set to play the legendary rapper and producer opposite Jonathan Daviss, who stars as Snoop Dogg himself.
The relationship between Snoop and Dre was instrumental to Snoop’s rise and will figure prominently in the film. In the early 1990s, as Dre was recording his seminal debut The Chronic, a cassette of demo tracks from a young Snoop Dogg landed in his hands. He was impressed enough to put Snoop on multiple tracks, including the mega-hit ‘Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang,’ which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as ‘The Next Episode’ and ‘Still D.R.E.’ Dre became Snoop’s mentor and produced his debut album Doggystyle, one of the defining records of the decade and a cornerstone of West Coast hip-hop.
Bullock, 35, is known for his roles in Starz’s BMF, Runaways, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and the 2023 reboot of White Men Can’t Jump. He confirmed the casting by reposting the news to Instagram, writing: “LA Kid playing an LA Legend, @snoopdogg @jonathandavissofficial let’s get it! #mamaimadeit.”
The casting reunites Bullock with director Craig Brewer, who directed him in Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist alongside Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson and Samuel L. Jackson. Brewer also wrote the latest draft of the script, which was initially penned by Joe Robert Cole.
The film is produced by Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum for Imagine Entertainment, alongside Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. Imagine’s Jeb Brody executive produces. The film will incorporate music from Snoop Dogg’s vast catalog.
Universal previously produced the Oscar-nominated N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton in 2015, in which LaKeith Stanfield played Snoop and Corey Hawkins portrayed Dr. Dre.
Bullock is currently shooting Hulu’s Prison Break: Black Creek as a series lead. Snoop is set for release August 6, 2027.
