Netflix has renewed Running Point for a third season, the streamer announced Wednesday at its 2026 Upfronts presentation in New York City.
The basketball comedy, created by Mindy Kaling, stars Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, a woman thrust into the presidency of the Los Angeles Waves — one of the league’s most storied franchises — after her brother Cam (Justin Theroux) is forced to step down. The series, inspired by the LA Lakers and team president Jeanie Buss, has become one of Netflix’s signature comedies since its debut in early 2025.
The ensemble cast includes Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, and Uche Agada as series regulars, with a deep recurring bench that features Max Greenfield, Jay Ellis, Rob Huebel, Ken Marino, Richa Moorjani, and Blake Anderson, among others.
The renewal comes on the heels of a strong cumulative performance. Netflix confirmed the show has surpassed 60 million views across its first two seasons, with Season 1 reaching No. 1 on the Global Top 10 and appearing in the charts across 89 countries. Though Season 2 opened softer than its predecessor, a 27% viewership jump in its second week signaled the kind of word-of-mouth momentum Netflix looks for before greenlighting another run.
Season 3 will have plenty of drama to work with. The Season 2 finale ended with a bombshell: a ousted Cam has teamed up with rival investor Al “The Flush Man” Fleischman to resurrect a competing LA franchise — and has hired Isla’s love interest Jay (Jay Ellis) as head coach, setting the stage for an all-out crosstown rivalry.
Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and showrunner David Stassen return as writers and executive producers. Hudson, Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis also executive produce. Production will once again be based in Los Angeles.
