Samuel L. Jackson Set to Saddle Up in Tim Story-Directed Western ‘Man of War’

Samuel L. Jackson is doing some good old-fashioned vengeance in his latest project. The legendary actor is gearing up to lead Man of War, a gritty new western from Paramount, with Tim Story directing and producing. This marks a fresh collaboration between the two.

In the film, Jackson portrays a newly retired and long-revered general who returns to his rural Georgia hometown following the death of his wife—only to find the town unraveling. Faced with widespread corruption, gentrification, and deeply rooted racism, the general draws on his military training and battle-tested instincts to take a stand. What unfolds is an all-out war against the forces—both systemic and individual—tearing the community apart. The script was written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air).

Man of War is being produced by Turner and Jennifer Klein under their Vendetta Productions banner. Tim Story produces via The Story Company, with Vicky Story serving as executive producer.

Story, a proven force at the box office, has directed 10 major studio features, including Barbershop, Ride Along, Think Like a Man, and Fantastic Four. Eight of those films debuted at No. 1 during opening weekend. He holds the distinction of being the first Black director to helm a Marvel film and the first to do so twice. His work has grossed over $1 billion globally, making him a standout figure in the industry. He most recently directed Amazon Studios’ upcoming feature The Pick Up starring Eddie Murphy and is currently in pre-production on 72 Hours, a Netflix film starring Kevin Hart. His television credits include Queens (ABC) and White Famous (Showtime).

As for Jackson, his career speaks for itself. The Academy Award-honored actor has appeared in more than 150 films, including Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park, The Hateful Eight, Captain Marvel, and the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He has earned accolades across nearly every major awards body, including the Emmys, Golden Globes, SAG Awards, BAFTA, and multiple NAACP Image Awards. Most recently, he was seen in Marvel’s Secret Invasion and is set to appear in The Beast (directed by Renny Harlin) and Afterburn (directed by J.J. Perry).
